Mindset refers to the way you think. It’s how you address situations and problems in your life. Do you think about them in a positive or negative way?
Your mindset is your collection of thoughts and beliefs that shape your thinking patterns and habits. These habits then affect how you think, what you feel & what you do.
The two basic mindsets that essentially shape our lives and the world around us, are fixed mindset and growth mindset.
People with F I X E D Mindsets:
- Feel that they are only good at certain things
- Give up when things get too hard
- Hate challenges
- Take feedback and criticism personally
- Are too afraid to fail
- Don’t like to try new things
- Unwilling to learn
- Believe change is not possible
People with G R O W T H Mindsets:
- Feel that they can be good at anything
- Keep trying until they get the desired results
- Embrace challenges
- Welcome feedback & criticism
- Not afraid of failures
- Love trying new things
- Always willing to learn & grow
- Believe change is always possible
Understanding which kind of mindset we have, not only helps us in life, but it improves our own self-worth and self-concept. Once we become aware of our mindsets, we begin to understand why we think the way we do. It is only after this realization, that true change can occur.
It is important to note that while having a growth mindset communicates that you can change yourself and the world around you, your fixed mindset does help you realize that sometimes you need to take care of certain responsibilities, even if you don’t want to. The key is not to try to force a change in our mindsets overnight, but to become aware, reflect and slowly start improving our thinking patterns.
